Q + A with Michael Jordan, Owner, AnthroDesk

Q. How long have you lived in Mimico and when did you open your business?

A. My wife and first moved to Mimico in 2006. We loved the area so much we stayed in the area and moved to our current house in 2010 before starting a family. AnthroDesk was started in 2014. Initially we sold online and then had an office in Mississauga, but wanting to have space closer to home we opened our office showroom in New Toronto in 2017.

Q. Can you tell us a little about it?

A. AnthroDesk is the leading Canadian standing desk brand. We sell sit-to-stand desks, converters and modern office gear to Canada and the U.S. Our local New Toronto office employs several people, including a lot of Humber Lakeshore students. We’re still in growth mode and life is busy, but I’m proud of how committed and passionate our team is about the benefits of standing while working. That fact that we are a Canadian based company, have one of the best warranties in the industry, and our commitment to customer service is what sets us apart.

Q. What inspired you to start such a unique business?

A. I’ve always had an interest in e-commerce and a desire to start my own business. After spending several years sitting at a desk at the office and at home and experiencing back pain and discomfort, I decided to order a standing desk for my home office. I quickly discovered that there were very few Canadian sources that made quality products, and those that did were grossly overpriced. I started working with designers to develop and manufacturer a product that would work for me and others, and the rest is history! I think the world of working at a desk has changed for good and it’s only a matter of time before sit-stand desks are the norm. All office workers should have the option to stand and move at work and our team loves helping to make this happen.

Q. Why did you choose South Etobicoke as your home and work location?

A. My wife and I originally moved to Mimico because of the proximity to our workplaces and our desire to live by the lake. Living in this neighbourhood for over 10 years, it was only natural that I opened the office here in the community we love. It’s also super accessible for customers from Toronto and the 905!

Q. What do you love about the area?

A. I love that this neighbourhood is so close to downtown, but that we can also walk to the lake, trails and parks. There are fantastic local businesses that we like to frequent as a family and most importantly it has a real community feel. I’m fortunate to have the support of friends and neighbours and I love supporting other local businesses too.

Q. You have a huge online presence, where can people find your products?

A. We primarily sell on our website www.anthrodesk.ca in Canada, and www.anthrodesk.com in the US. We also sell through Amazon, Best Buy, Staples, Walmart, Wayfair and NewEgg. Our New Toronto office also acts as a showroom that gives us the opportunity to sell open-box deals and allows customers to see our products in person. Please come on by and check out what we have!
